Fox digital scales

Fox digital scalesAfter many years of using the conventional spring, dial type scales, I decided about 7 months ago to come up to date and bought a set of the new Fox digital scales after my old set needed replacing. My initial thoughts after unpacking them and reading the instructions, was just how neat and tidy they were and how easy to use.

At the top of the unit is a solid ring that can be used to hang the scales, and this is neatly stored in the main body of the scales by pushing it back inside its own recess. On each side are handles that fold at right angles, both with grips and are a good size for lifting the catch up with, so no need for an additional weigh bar. On the bottom, the solid weighing hook also retracts into its own recess, keeping everything neat and tidy when not in use.

The LCD display is easily readable during daylight and darkness with numbers that are about 12mm tall as well as a backlight facility for use during darkness; this is a gentle green light that makes the figures stand out very well indeed. The whole unit is well protected by a moulded case that clips into place, ensuring that the display and buttons are safe and out of harms way during transit and storage.

Fox digital scales displayThe scales can be set to weigh in pounces and ounces or in kilograms with a maximum payload of 30kilos or 66 pounds and they also have an under/over load indicator. When you set up the scales for the first time, you can set the date and time and this is no gimmick as it has a very useful purpose. As you weigh your catch, by the press of one button, you can store that weight for retrieval later. When you do look back at the 30 saved weights that it can store, it will also tell you the date and time of the catch. The one function that I really appreciated was the zero button where you hang the wetted weigh sling or similar, whatever its weight, onto the scales, let them settle and then press the zero button to set them to zero, ready for the weighing of your catch.

A label on the rear of the unit shows a quick guide to all the main functions and the scales run on two AAA batteries, housed behind a slot out cover on the rear. Fox do recommend that the scales are recalibrated every two years but with no springs to rust with damp, I'm sure that this great bit of kit will give many years of service. A very well designed, and well made bit of kit that I am very happy with and now recommend to all my friends and at £74.99, excellent value for money.
